美国通胀刚让美联储重新加息，另一个价格压力又冒了出来：柴油。据路透社9月17日报道，美国柴油价格已经突破每加仑6美元，并连续刷新纪录。美国汽车协会数据显示，柴油价格过去一个月上涨15%，过去一年更是暴涨70%。
相比经常占据头条的原油，柴油受到的关注要少得多，但它对美国经济的影响可能更加直接。路透指出，有估算显示，柴油约占美国中间燃料使用量的70%。卡车运输、物流配送和生产环节都大量依赖柴油，这意味着柴油价格上涨并不会只停留在加油站，而会一路传导到企业成本，最终反映在消费者购买的商品和服务价格上，并推高核心通胀。
价格上涨已经开始引起美国政界注意。美国参议院多数党领袖约翰·图恩（John Thune）周二表示，为了压低国内柴油价格，他愿意考虑限制柴油出口。
