Tech up on AI Optimism

Shares of technology companies rose on optimism about the artificial-intelligence boom.

One brokerage said the initial knee-jerk selling of tech stocks in response to Anthropic Chief Executive Dario Amodei's warning on the catastrophic potential of AI were likely overdone.

"Proposed restrictions are relatively benign," said strategists at brokerage Jefferies, in a note to clients. "Narrow regulation could increase public confidence, standardize safety practices, and reinforce AI's social license to operate without constraining the broader build-out."

Chinese chip maker CXMT intends to establish a NAND flash memory research-and-development production line at a new factory in Beijing, Reuters reported. Still, shares of U.S. flash-memory firms such as SanDisk rose sharply.
