President Donald Trump announced on September 18 via X that the United States has entered into an agreement with the Kingdom of Denmark and Greenland, granting the U.S. permanent control over security and all other needs in Greenland, at no cost to the United States.

Trump stated that, under his direction, representatives worked with Denmark and Greenland to ensure the U.S. will forever have complete ability to do what is necessary in Greenland to secure and defend the safety of Greenland and the United States. He added that from now on, no U.S. adversary can ever have a base, military presence, or make sensitive investments in Greenland without express written approval from the U.S.

Trump noted that presidents for over 100 years have recognized Greenland's strategic importance but none were able to act on it. He expressed pride in being the president who permanently and conclusively addressed the situation, calling it an "Infinite Life Agreement" with no end. The U.S. will immediately begin developing a large military presence in appropriate parts of Greenland, working with the Greenlandic people.

Trump described the agreement as a great solution for the U.S., Denmark, Greenland, and all allies, and said he looks forward to working with the people of Denmark and Greenland toward a magnificent future regarding this highly strategic parcel of land.
