Consumer stocks were higher late Thursday afternoon, with the State Street Consumer Staples Select Sector SPDR ETF (XLP) increasing 0.2% and the State Street Consumer Discretionary Select Sector SPDR ETF (XLY) rising 1.2%.

In corporate news, Mondelez International (MDLZ), Hershey (HSY), Kraft Heinz (KHC), General Mills (GIS) and other food companies will continue to face potential sales declines due to the rising use of GLP-1 treatment for weight loss, but the introduction of pills could lower the impact on sales, Bloomberg reported, citing Bloomberg Intelligence research. Mondelez shares were down 0.3%, Hershey was shedding 0.8%, Kraft rose 0.7%, and General Mills was fractionally lower.
