路透9月21日 - 南方公司（SO.N）旗下子公司佐治亚电力（Georgia Power）周一表示，已与谷歌（Google GOOGL.O）签署协议，支持其两座核电站的升级改造，此举有望增加约96兆瓦的发电能力。
随着数据中心及其他大用户的电力需求激增，人们越来越关注扩建现有核电站，将其作为全天候、零碳电力来源。
该协议尚待佐治亚州公共服务委员会批准，一旦获批，将为佐治亚电力公司所持有的沃格特尔（Vogtle）和哈奇（Hatch）核电机组的升级提供资金支持。
谷歌的认购将使客户在机组整个运行周期内获得约9亿美元的预期收益。
升级工作将涉及对涡轮机、水泵、电动机和冷却系统等设备的改造，使反应堆能够在现有电站基础设施的基础上产生更多电力。
佐治亚电力公司表示，该安排将有助于大型客户实现清洁能源目标，同时确保未参与该计划的客户免受升级相关成本的影响。
