Singapore Central Bank's Policy Decision Likely to be a Close Call

0218 GMT - The Monetary Authority of Singapore's policy decision in October is likely to be a very close call, UOB's Jester Koh says in a note. Imported inflation remains elevated amid a resurgence in energy prices. In July, the MAS increased "very slightly" the rate of appreciation of the Singapore dollar nominal effective exchange-rate policy band. UOB expects a similar move at the coming meeting from MAS to curb imported inflation risks. MAS would also have the option to make its policy less restrictive in subsequent policy meetings if core inflation is more benign than expected.
