报道显示，53岁患者米歇尔·芬内尔确诊患上非动脉炎性前部缺血性视神经病变（NAION），出现视力模糊、周边视野逐步消失的症状，该病症可造成突发性、永久性失明。该患者服用司美格鲁肽治疗2型糖尿病长达6个月，医生已要求其立刻停药，保护剩余视力。部分医生研究认为，司美格鲁肽或令NAION发病风险提升约一倍；欧洲药品管理局（EMA）将其列为极罕见副作用，预估万人中最多1例发病。
