0638 ET - Novo Nordisk's capital markets day announcements, including the diversification plan and a vague midterm sales target, disappointed investors, AlphaValue analyst Abhishek Raval writes. "Against the backdrop of excessive dependency on a single molecule, aggressive and heavy diversification bets, along with impeccable commercial execution, are the need of the hour." However, the markets have their reservations, Raval says. The commercial success of oral Wegovy, some promising late-stage assets, and the firepower for acquisitions provide reasons to bet on Novo, which is available at a discount to peers, he adds. AlphaValue rates the Danish drugmaker's stock at buy with a 450 Danish kroner target price. Shares fall 0.2% to 259.40 kroner. (dominic.chopping@wsj.com)
0509 ET - Novo Nordisk's 8% share price fall following the investor day is an overreaction, but proves that investors remain nervous about 2027, with expected price pressure and CagriSema drug launch skepticism, Berenberg analysts write. The Novo story appears more interesting from 2028, with zenagamtide phase 3 data, CagriSema bone and muscle function data and multiple phase 1 and 2 readouts, the bank says. The event provided a comprehensive overview of the company's strategy, R&D pipeline and business operations, but offered only incremental strategic insights, it adds. The 2030 and 2035 sales ambitions were also outlined, which are broadly in line with expectations. Understanding the need to quickly diversify the portfolio ahead of U.S./EU semaglutide patent expiry early next decade, Novo aims to significantly speed up development and supplement the internal pipeline. Shares fall 0.7%. (dominic.chopping@wsj.com)
0343 ET - EssilorLuxottica is expected to benefit from more durable smartglasses demand, analyst at RBC Capital Markets Piral Dadhania says in a research note. The Franco-Italian eyewear group has been under pressure from worries of new competition coming into the segment. EssilorLuxottica develops smartglasses in partnership with Meta. The stepdown in growth from last year's fourth-quarter peak reflects the natural evolution of the category, the analyst says. This goes from rollout of the product and early-adoption demand to a more durable long-term growth rate, he adds. While smartglasses remain a positive contributor to group growth, competition in this category should continue to (rise, Dadhania says. Shares fall 0.4%. (andrea.figueras@wsj.com)
0340 ET - Novo Nordisk's investor day underwhelmed on multiple fronts, relative to some of the more optimistic expectations heading into the event, Deutsche Bank analyst Emmanuel Papadakis writes. "Whilst the event provided both a helpful and thorough review of the business outlook as well as a strategic refresh, it was met with a fairly punishing market response." The bank says there was largely a reiteration of familiar strategic messaging and the mid-term building blocks, in addition to somewhat underwhelming mid-term guidance. There was also nothing of substance in terms of clinical data or assets, and little clarity on M&A even though it clearly remains on the agenda, Deutsche Bank adds. The bank lowers its stock target price to 245 Danish kroner from 265 kroner and retains its sell rating. Shares fall 0.6% to 258.50 kroner. (dominic.chopping@wsj.com)
0249 ET - Roche Holding achieved positive results in a study for its obesity drug candidate enicepatide in adults with diabetes and obesity, building on a previous trial that showed efficacy in obese patients without diabetes, Vontobel's Stefan Schneider says in a research note. Patients with Type 2 diabetes who are either overweight or obese are an inherently difficult-to-treat patient population, the analyst says. The combination of a good proportion of diabetics getting back to normalized glucose levels and achieving sustained weight loss with enicepatide give the drug a competitive profile, Schneider says. 0216 ET - Novo Nordisk's 8% share decline following the Wegovy maker's investor day on Monday suggests investors weren't convinced about its growth plans, but this seems like a somewhat harsh reaction, Jyske Bank's Henrik Hallengreen Laustsen writes. "The strategy and its key components appear sound, if not impressive." However, following several disappointments from Novo, the market wants to see concrete clinical and commercial evidence, Jyske Bank adds. Novo presented ambitions for industry-level growth through 2030 and stable margins, which seemed slightly underwhelming relative to market expectations, the bank says. It maintains its hold rating on the stock with a 330 Danish kroner target price.Jyske Bank cites uncertainty on growth prospects, pressure from semaglutide's 2032 patent expiry, fair valuation, and limited near-term news flow. Shares closed Monday at 260 kroner. (dominic.chopping@wsj.com)
0149 ET - Luxury industry's outlook seems too optimistic given the current market environment, RBC Capital Markets analyst Piral Dadhania says. The analyst has a prudent sector view for the remainder of this year and for 2027. This is mainly due to weakened demand on the back of mixed economic indicators in China, as well as a potential moderation in the key U.S. market, Dadhania says. "Consensus mid-term estimates are too optimistic assuming accelerating revenue growth expectations and margin expansion which in our view is not justified based on current momentum," the analyst adds. The creative reshuffle that some brands implemented in order to attract shoppers is unlikely to deliver the expected push to revenue growth given a tough economic backdrop, Dadhania says. 0140 ET - Novo Nordisk's capital markets day offered little to change Citi's cautious view, with topline growth ambitions in line with consensus but margins below expectations. The company is positioning for the post-semaglutide era through more than five planned multi-blockbuster launches by 2030 and more than 150 billion Danish kroner of pipeline sales by 2035, which is largely reflected in consensus, Citi says. Updated oral obesity capacity and more than 20 Wegovy pill market launches in 2027 are encouraging, but execution is key. Novo also intends to broaden growth beyond obesity and diabetes into cardiovascular, liver, blood, and endocrine disorders, while a 2027 launch of CagriSema is a key opportunity to beat consensus, Citi adds. "M&A focus remains bolt-on but management did not rule out a large transaction, creating some inherent risk." (dominic.chopping@wsj.com)
0127 ET - Novo Nordisk used its investor day to highlight potential building blocks that underpin mid-term growth expectations, but more data is needed to increase investor confidence, J.P. Morgan analysts write. The company provided mid-term targets for topline growth from 2026-30 in the mid-single-digit range and an expectation for adjusted operating profit margins to remain broadly stable. These targets largely underpin consensus expectations for sales, but depend on the Wegovy oral pill and CagriSema rollouts, and delivery of a competitive zenagamtide obesity and weight-loss drug profile in phase-3 trials in 2028, the bank adds. The company highlighted three further oral obesity products beyond Wegovy that it expects will further drive its market share in this segment. Shares fell 7.7% Monday. (dominic.chopping@wsj.com)
0039 ET - IHH Healthcare is trading at the lower end among regional hospital peers and near historical lows despite an accelerating growth outlook, Macquarie analyst Amanda Foo says in a note. Macquarie estimates Ebitda to grow at an annualized 17% rate in FY26-29, versus 12% in FY22-25. IHH's earnings momentum is improving across Singapore, Malaysia and India. IHH's medical-tourism exposure is also underappreciated, with foreign patients contributing 14.5% of Malaysian revenue in 1H26, Foo says. She maintains an outperform rating and target price of 11.10 ringgit. Shares are up 5.1% at 8.01 ringgit.
