Trane Technologies Demonstrates New Proof-of-Concept 800-Volt DC Chiller for Data Center Operations

Trane Technologies (TT) has demonstrated a proof-of-concept 800-volt direct current chiller designed for artificial intelligence factories and gigawatt-scale data centers operations, the HVAC systems company said Wednesday.
Trane collaborated with Eaton (ETN) and Danish engineering company Danfoss to modify an existing high-efficiency chiller to operate with an 800 volt DC current, resulting in up to 2% improvement in system efficiency over conventional AC counterparts.
For gigawatt-scale AI data centers, a 2% efficiency gain can result in up to 1.8 megawatt of additional compute capacity.
