Wall Street futures were muted pre-bell Wednesday as traders awaited a key inflation report from Washington, and the after-bell earnings release from Micron Technology (MU), considered a bellwether of the memory-chip industry.
In the futures, the S&P 500 was steady, the Nasdaq declined 0.1% and the Dow Jones was flat.
The Federal Reserve's preferred price gauge, the personal consumption expenditures-core inflation index for August, is slated for an 8:30 am ET release in Washington.
In morning action, West Texas Intermediate crude oil futures traded up 0.9% at $90.20 a barrel, while yields on 10-year US Treasuries eased slightly to 5.22%.
Asian exchanges traded mostly higher overnight on tech-sector strength. European bourses were mixed on the continent.
On the economic calendar, in addition to the PCE-core inflation bulletin, is the ADP Employment Report for September at 8:15 am ET.

In pre-market action, bitcoin traded at $83,829, while spot gold commanded $4,181 an ounce.
