Wall Street futures were muted pre-bell Tuesday as traders awaited clarity on the AI sector, and weighed high oil prices and bond yields.
In the futures, the S&P 500 was steady, the Nasdaq inclined 0.2% and the Dow Jones was off 0.1%.
President Donald Trump will meet AI-industry leaders at lunchtime in Washington, including Nvidia (NVDA) CEO Jensen Huang, Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei, and Palantir Technologies (PLTR) CEO Alex Karp, to discuss safety concerns.
Separately, Anthropic's confidential IPO filing with the Securities and Exchange Commission revealed a possible $2 trillion market cap, but also plans to spend $518 billion in future capital outlays, reported Reuters, citing a copy of the prospectus the news service reviewed.
West Texas Intermediate crude oil traded down 0.2% at $92.41, and 10-year US Treasuries offered 5.24%, both indicators easing marginally in morning action.
The VanEck Semiconductor fund (SMH) traded up 0.7% pre-bell.
Investors will scrutinize the Job Openings and Labor Turnover Survey, or JOLTS report for August, for clues to labor market strength, slated 10 am ET release in Washington.
Asian exchanges traded mostly lower overnight, while European bourses tracked moderately north midday on the continent.
Carnival (CCL) plans to report earnings pre-bell, among others.
On the economic calendar, in addition to the JOLTS, is the Case-Shiller Home Price Index and the FHFA House Price Index, both for July, at 9 am ET.
The Conference Board consumer confidence report logs at 10 am.
Federal Reserve Governors Michelle Bowman, Christopher Waller and Michael Barr, Chicago President Austan Goolsbee, St. Louis President Alberto Musalem, and New York President John Williams are slated to speak on Tuesday.
In pre-market action, bitcoin traded at $84,096, and spot gold commanded $4,149 an ounce.
