NHTSA Denies Petition Following Review of Honda Odyssey Air-Bag Deployments

The U.S. National Highway Traffic Safety Administration denied a petition that alleged air bags in certain Honda Odyssey minivans could deploy without a sufficiently severe triggering event.

The agency opened a defect petition in July, saying at that time it would investigate reports of inadvertent air-bag deployments in Honda Odyssey vehicles manufactured between 2011 and 2017.

However, after a review of the petition materials, consumer complaint information and other relevant information, NHTSA said it didn't find sufficient evidence to indicate that inadvertent air-bag deployments present a safety-related defect or warrant a formal investigation.
