Synopsys inked an agreement to lend its intellectual property for custom silicon to Amazon.

Synopsys said Wednesday the agreement also expands Amazon's use of Synopsys electronic design automation, simulation and analysis and agentic AI technologies. The companies also plan to work together on applying AI across silicon-to-system engineering workflows, Synopsys said.

The companies said the multi-year agreement aims to help Amazon ramp up its purpose-built chips business.

"As our chip designs grow more ambitious and AI reshapes the engineering process itself, Synopsys helps us move faster across the design cycle, helping us deliver more capable, efficient computing for customers worldwide," said Peter DeSantis, senior vice president of foundational AI, custom silicon, quantum computing at Amazon.
