Amazon (AMZN) and 2PointZero Group unit Ghitha have signed a memorandum of understanding to explore a seasonal fresh produce initiative in the UAE, linking local farms with Amazon's supply chain, the companies said Wednesday.

Under the plan, crop selection would be guided by customer demand, with locally grown produce delivered through Amazon Now.

The companies also plan to develop a packhouse and distribution center at Food Tech Valley in Dubai and expand Ghitha's local brands on Amazon Now, they said.

The companies said the initiative aims to increase the availability of locally sourced produce and support UAE farmers.
