Yancoal Australia (ASX:YAL, HKG:3668) said the New South Wales Independent Planning Commission approved the Hunter Valley Operations continuation project to extend mining through the end of 2045, according to a Wednesday filing with the Australian bourse.
Hunter Valley Operations is a joint venture between Yancoal Australia, which owns a 51% stake, and Glencore, which has a 49% interest.
The state approval follows a six-year regulatory process during which Hunter Valley Operations engaged with regulators and stakeholders to adapt the project's design and operational framework.
The project also requires federal government environmental approval by Dec. 31, and the joint venture operator will continue to engage with authorities to secure that clearance, Yancoal said.
In its decision, the NSW Independent Planning Commission said it applied certain conditions to the approval to help manage a range of biodiversity, water, noise, and other impacts. Hunter Valley Operations must publish a greenhouse gas mitigation plan within six months, and will also be required to purchase additional carbon offsets.
Yancoal shares gained 4% in recent Australian trading on Wednesday.
