世界大型企业联合会公布的数据显示，消费者信心指数下降6.7点至81.9，前一个月的数据也被下修。经济学家预测中值为89。
衡量当前状况的指标下降近8点至2021年以来最低，衡量未来六个月预期的指标也降至一年多来最低。
报告显示，消费者对生活成本持续感到担忧，包括高企的汽油价格。尽管通胀令人担忧，但消费者支出和劳动力市场一直表现出韧性。预计周五公布的非农就业报告将显示，9月招聘活动仍然稳健。
根据美国汽车协会（AAA）的数据，伊朗战争已推动汽油价格持续保持在每加仑4美元以上。美国零售柴油价格接近历史高位，取暖油价格也在冬季到来前大幅上涨。
世界大型企业联合会首席经济学家Dana Peterson在声明中表示：“9月消费者在问卷中写下的影响经济因素大多较为悲观”。
