Japanese equities advanced Thursday morning, tracking overnight strength on Wall Street.

The Nikkei 225 opened 352.8 points, or 0.5%, higher at 67,106.52.

US markets had posted broad gains Wednesday after the Federal Reserve's favored inflation measure came in below expectations, bolstering bets that officials will hold rates steady this month.

At home, the Bank of Japan indicated its focus has shifted toward containing price pressures, with policymakers describing a new phase of keeping inflation below 2% following a rate hike to a 1995 high, according to minutes from last month's meeting.
