President Donald Trump on October 3 denounced what he called "Fake News" reports regarding the investigation into the troubled Federal Reserve Building renovation, stating that newly confirmed Fed Chairman Kevin Warsh has announced an in-depth, independent audit and that Attorney General Todd Blanche will investigate any evidence of wrongdoing.
"This project is Hundreds of Millions of Dollars over budget, and way behind schedule, due to a total lack of leadership, oversight, and competence, of Jerome 'Too Late' Powell," Trump wrote on X, citing a recent Inspector General report. He expressed support for the audit and Justice Department probe, adding: "I look forward to learning the results of the professional audit and the DOJ investigation!"
The White House did not immediately respond to a request for comment. A Federal Reserve spokesperson declined to comment.
