Shares in the energy sector fell slightly as oil prices stayed near their elevated wartime levels.
WIT crude oil rose 30% in the third quarter, according to data from FactSet. Crude oil has now gained 57% year-to-date. Brent crude has done even better, gaining 42% in the third quarter and 70% year-to-date.
U.S. crude oil inventories rose last week, as refineries ran at a slower pace according to the U.S. Energy Information Administration. Commercial crude oil stocks excluding the Strategic Petroleum Reserve rose by 900,000 barrels to 427.3 million barrels in the week ended Sept. 25 and were about 2% above the five-year average for the time of year, the EIA said.
