韩国领先的电池制造商LG新能源公司四宣布，已与一家加拿大公司签署长期协议，以获取锂精矿供应。
该公司在新闻稿中表示，根据该协议，Elevra Lithium将在从今年晚些时候开始的四年内，向LG新能源供应24万吨锂精矿。
LG新能源预计，该供应协议将有助于增强其响应当地客户需求的能力，同时支持北美储能系统（ESS）市场的快速增长。
LG新能源采购中心负责人 Lee Kang-yeol 表示：“该协议标志着我们在加强北美原材料供应链及支持该地区快速增长的 ESS 市场方面，又迈出了重要一步。”
随着储能系统（ESS）电池需求的增长，该公司计划到12月在北美实现超过50吉瓦时（GWh）的磷酸铁锂（LFP）电芯产能。该产能布局涵盖三家全资工厂——分别位于密歇根州兰辛（Lansing）和霍兰德（Holland）的LG新能源工厂，以及位于加拿大安大略省的NextStar Energy工厂——以及两家合资工厂，即与本田汽车（Honda Motor Co．）在俄亥俄州合资建设的工厂，和与通用汽车（General Motors Co．）在田纳西州合资建设的工厂。
在电动汽车（EV）市场持续低迷、导致EV电池需求疲软的背景下，电池企业正加紧争取更多储能电池订单，以抵消这一不利影响。
据市场研究机构伍德麦肯兹（Wood Mackenzie）预测，到2031年，美国储能系统市场规模预计将增长四倍，达到499吉瓦时（GWh）。
