Analog Devices (ADI), LVMH's wines and spirits division, Moet Hennessy, and the University of California, Davis, said Wednesday they are collaborating on technology aimed at improving wine quality and supporting vineyard health.

The effort will explore the use of Analog Devices' chemical-sensing technology to detect and interpret volatile chemical signatures from grapevines, juice and wine.

The technology is expected to provide viticulture and winemaking teams with earlier insight into biological processes and potential quality risks, according to a joint statement.

The companies said the technology identified samples at elevated risk of developing Fresh Mushroom Aroma, a wine-quality defect, before it would traditionally be detected.
