Infratil-backed (ASX:IFT, NZE:IFT) CDC Data Centres' proposed 1.4-gigawatt facility in Wagga Wagga in Australia has drawn opposition from local residents who say it would affect homes, farmland, and the environment, according to media reports on Thursday.

The facility to be located at Ashfords Road in Gregadoo will likely exceed the power usage of over a million typical New South Wales homes every year, ABC said in its report.

Petition organizers are urging the Wagga Wagga City Council, the New South Wales government, and relevant planning authorities to reject the proposal for the site, a realestate.com.au report said.

A CDC spokesperson said the project team will be in Wagga Wagga on Oct. 14 and 15 to meet community members in person at the Transgrid Discovery Hub, according to the realestate.com.au report.

CDC did not immediately respond to MT Newswires' request for comment.

Infratil's Australian and New Zealand shares were down past 1% in recent Thursday trade.
