Voyager Technologies agreed to manage a cancer research experiment on the International Space Station.

The company said Tuesday that it signed a contract with the Center for the Advancement of Science in Space to manage Symphony Biosciences' testing of a biopolymer cancer implant called SymphNode, which is designed to spur the body's immune response to fight cancerous cells.

Voyager will adapt the hardware in the experiment for the space station, ensure the equipment clears safety reviews by the National Aeronautics and Space Administration, and manage the experiment itself from its mission operations room.

The experiment aboard the ISS is designed to replicate in vitro studies conducted on Earth.

"Microgravity provides a cancer research environment where tumor cells form complex, three-dimensional structures that are obscured in Earth cultures, and our role is to make sure nothing stands between companies like Symphony Biosciences and unlocking better ways to fight cancer and improve life on Earth," said Scott Rodriguez, Voyager's vice president of government programs.
