Leading artificial intelligence (AI) companies do not know how to prevent AI systems from pursuing objectives beyond those assigned by developers, former OpenAI and Anthropic employee Jacob Coxon said Monday, AFP reported.
Coxon told the New York City Council that companies are being "extremely reckless" given the potential consequences.
He said developers do not know how to prevent AI systems from developing goals of their own or acting on them, according to AFP.
Coxon, who resigned from Anthropic in September, said AI could bring "tremendous benefits" but that humanity could lose control of the technology on its current path, AFP reported.
