On October 21, President Donald Trump said on X that new and large data centers are mandated by him to generate their own electricity and to give or sell any excess back to local communities or the power grid.

Trump wrote that he has been watching data centers closely and argued that electricity prices could fall under this approach, adding, “In fact, there could be a substantial decrease.” He also wrote, “Other elements likewise!” without elaboration.

He proposed that companies seeking to make their data centers more popular should compensate local residents: “If companies want to make their Data Centers popular, pay the community, and/or individuals within the community, a ‘dividend.’”

According to his post, projects that had been highly unpopular in some areas became “extremely popular” when a financial deal was struck. He urged companies to reach agreements and proceed with construction, writing, “MAKE DEALS, and get them built!!!” He signed the message “President DJT.”
